šŸ’”Too Important Not To Try

You know what I can't stand to see?

Friends and family holding themselves back from what they truly want to be doing.

Seeing their passion and potential wither away from inaction really gets to me.

šŸ’” Some things are too important not to try.

ā€œWhen something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.ā€ -Elon Musk

Some people want to start a business whilst others want to start a clothing line or make music.

These things are important to them, yet, they hold back.

Here is how you can tell if you or someone you know fits this category:

They follow or study closely those who already do it. They practice that very thing in solitude, often half-heartedly. They repeatedly bring up the topic in conversation.

These people often bide their time, waiting for a miracle to manifest this vision into reality.

A talent scout to pluck them from their bedrooms.

A spotlight that shines through the walls they've erected.

A golden ticket to fast-track them into motion.

Not surprisingly, it doesn't happen.

šŸ™‡šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø What's holding you back?

Excuses, more time than not.

Here are some of them, paired with my responses:

I don't have the resources to start - You don't need a fancy camera or expensive equipment to start. Uploading a youtube video is free. Writing a blog post is free.

I missed the wave, I should have started 5 years ago - There's never a wrong time to start. Not starting at all is the real problem.

I can't quit my job, I'm not sure I'll earn a living from it - Don't quit then, do it in your free time.

ā€œIf you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse.ā€ -Jim Rohn

šŸš€ Take the risk.

Think of all the things that can go wrong if you started your new venture.

Write them down.

Internalise them.

Think about what would happen if they all came true.

Would it really be that bad?

A few friends making discouraging comments? A couple of haters? A bit of embarrassment of being on screen? A few months of savings spent on expensive equipment?

Would that kill you?

Hopefully not.

ā€œThereā€™s a tremendous bias against taking risks. Everyone is trying to optimize their ass-coveringā€ - Elon Musk

Now, think of the upside.

Doing what you love every day?

Feeling a sense of purpose in how you spend your time?

Meeting like-minded people, building a fan base and earning enough money to substitute the day job?

Some things are too important not to try.

šŸŽ™ NEW: Quote of the Week

ā€œIf you wait for someone to give you a job title before you do the work, you might never get to do the work at all. You canā€™t wait around for someone to call you an artist before you make art. Youā€™ll never make it. If and when you finally get to be the nounā€”when that coveted job title is bestowed upon you by othersā€”donā€™t stop doing your verb. Job titles arenā€™t really for you, theyā€™re for others. Let other people worry about them. Burn your business cards if you have to. Forget the nouns altogether. Do the verbs.ā€  - Austin Kleon
